    Exeter's Alan Baretto, Dover's Quinn Carberry win Seacoast high school Athletes of Week

    The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week winners for Sept. 16-21 are Dover High School volleyball player Quinn Carberry and Exeter High School soccer player Alan Barretto, presented by York County Community College.

    Barretto joins previous fall winners: Traip Academy football player Ben Martine and Exeter football player Daniel Batstone . Carberry joins previous girls winners this fall: York soccer player Ava Hickey and Exeter volleyball player Gabby Dale .

    The weekly poll runs each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports . The honors are presented by York County Community College.

    Carberry won the online poll by receiving nearly 33% of the online votes with 477 to earn girls athlete of the week. Exeter soccer player Lauren Roeder finished second with 432.

    Marshwood field hockey player Eva Hershey had 217 votes, Newmarket soccer player Amelia Raab had 177 votes and Oyster River cross country athlete Haley Kavanagh had 147 votes, to round out the five nominees.

    Carberry recorded 20 assists in Dover's 3-2 Division I win over Keene last Friday.

    "I’m so proud of Quinn," Dover head coach Whitney Carrier said. "She is improving her game on a weekly basis and working hard to make strides in the areas where we need her help on the team. I can’t wait to see what success she has through the season as an offensive force herself."

    Barretto won the online poll with by receiving more than 43% of the online votes with 1,193 to earn boys athlete of the week. Marshwood football player Cody Bubier finished second with 1,156.

    Portsmouth golfer Grey Gagnon had 168 votes, York soccer player Robbie Hanscom had 152 votes and Portsmouth Christian Academy soccer player Bennett Money had 90 votes, to round out the top five respectively.

    Barretto scored two goals and delivered one assist in Exeter's 3-1 Division I win over Merrimack last Thursday.

    "Alan had a great week at a crucial time," Exeter head coach Dan Curran said. "His performance, on the road, against a quality Merrimack side was one that he couldn't have timed any better. we are looking forward to continued contributions from him."
