WELLS, Maine — Wells High School senior Kendall Maxon is making headlines not just for her athletic prowess but also for her academic excellence.

Recently featured in a local television sports news story, Maxon humbly stated, “I like staying active,” a modest remark for someone who maintains a 4.0 GPA while captaining three WHS teams: lacrosse, basketball, and soccer.

In late August, Maxon was honored as WMTW Channel 8’s “Scholar-Athlete of the Week,” a distinction she earned through her dedication and hard work. Her lacrosse coach, Morgan Pike, nominated her for the award, highlighting her exceptional qualities.

“Kendall is an amazing athlete, student, and young lady,” Pike wrote in an email. “She was a phenomenal leader as a junior captain last season and helped lead the team to the state championship. Kendall is an athlete who embodies unselfishness and coaching ability. She leads by example, always putting the team's success above her own, and her work ethic is unparalleled. Whether in practice or during the game, Kendall demonstrates commitment and dedication that inspires everyone around her.”

Channel 8 personnel visited WHS to film Maxon at lacrosse practice. In an interview with sports reporter Travis Lee, Maxon shared that lacrosse is her favorite sport among the three she plays. She excels in both the midfield and attack positions.

Maxon’s academic interests are as impressive as her athletic achievements. She expressed a strong motivation to excel in the classroom, particularly in math and science. She has completed six AP college classes and four online courses through York County Community College. Looking ahead, she plans to continue playing lacrosse in college while pursuing a degree in business with a focus on marketing and management.

In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits, Kendall is also interested in real estate. She aims to obtain a real estate license this winter to work alongside her mother, a real estate agent. Kendall’s identical twin sister, Maren, also shares her passion for basketball.
