SANFORD, Maine — A local man is facing numerous charges, including ones related to burglary and drugs, following his arrest by the Scarborough Police Department on Monday.
Authorities arrested David Allan, 52, of Sanford, following reports they received from two separate businesses in Scarborough after they had been burglarized through forced entries early Monday morning, according to Scarborough police.
“Officers and investigators were able to locate evidence on scene that led them to a suspect,” the department stated in a press release.
Authorities said they learned Allan was driving a vehicle he allegedly had stolen in Sanford on Sunday night. Working with the South Portland Police Department, Scarborough investigators found the vehicle in South Portland around 8:50 a.m.
According to police, the suspect was found nearby and taken into custody.
Authorities allege Allan is also a suspect in burglaries in Biddeford and Portland earlier that morning.
Police brought Allan to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
Allan is charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, two counts of criminal mischief, and one count each of unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving without a license, unlawfully possessing fentanyl, and possessing burglary tools. He was also arrested on three outstanding warrants.
Allan was arraigned Wednesday, according to an official at the Cumberland County Jail. A representative at Portland District Court could not be reached for information regarding any bail conditions that may have been set. It was not immediately known if Allan has an attorney.

During an interview on Wednesday, Scarborough police Detective Don Laflin declined to name the businesses Allan is alleged to have burglarized. Laflin also declined to describe what Allan allegedly stole from the businesses, adding he did not want to publicize the inventory they keep during hours when they are closed.
Laflin also declined to answer a question about a motive or motives Allan may have had for the crimes he is accused of committing.
“This is an ongoing investigation,” Laflin said. “There are pending investigations in other communities that I do not want to impact.”
After the arrest, the Scarborough PD praised the police departments in South Portland, Portland, Biddeford, and Sanford on social media for their contributions to the case.
“This was a great team effort by all involved,” the department stated.
