PORTSMOUTH — Strawberry Banke Museum celebrated Independence Day with its time-honored tradition of hosting a U.S. Immigration Service naturalization ceremony Thursday.

On the waterfront grounds that have welcomed immigrants for nearly 400 years to a "neighborhood of newcomers," 99 people from 41 countries took the oath of allegiance with District Court Chief Judge Landya B. McCafferty presiding.

The U.S. Navy Sea Cadet Corps, Dan Healy Division color guard presented the American flag for the event.
