Jerry: Our Beloved Cat and Family's Joy

This story is about how our dear beloved Jerry came into our home and improved our lives in just a few years. I want to give you some information about our little family.  We are an exceptional family. It's just the three of us, my husband and I, and our special needs eleven-year-old son. We finally, after years of hard work, were able in 2020 to purchase our own home.  After a year, we started talking about getting a pet, but we were naturally concerned about our son's special needs.

In 2021, an old friend of my husband’s girlfriend messaged me asking if we were interested in adopting a cat.  They had a cat that she thought would be a great fit with us. We went to meet their cat.  She was so cute and laid back. I fell in love with her at first sight. My son loves the cartoon Tom & Jerry.  When we asked him about her name, he automatically said, “Jerry.”

She has a quirky personality, and she fits perfectly in our home. My son isn’t always gentle with her; he pushes her off the chair when she is sleeping (sometimes). It is so cute the look she shoots him when it happens. It’s like she is saying, “Someday, buddy, when you're not looking.”

She has never once scratched him. She has hissed at him and growled, but only as a warning. It does work. He would usually come to me and tell me she just growled or hissed at him. I just tell him she is telling you to leave her alone. He is getting better with her, and we reprimand him when he is mean to her. She has the patience of a saint when it comes to my son.  She knows to hide from him when he has bad days (unfortunately, they are often). Their bond is unique, and he talks to her every day like she can talk back to him, and she does listen to him (you can tell by her face)

Jerry gets up with me every morning when I get up for work; she requires her morning treats. She is also my alarm clock (even on weekends, but she has no snooze, unfortunately, lol). She has my husband trained to give her a can of food every morning at 10 a.m. She will let you know if you have forgotten or are late for her food. She does have a mouth on her, and she can sure talk when she wants to. She has a routine that she sticks to, and it's fascinating to see how she communicates her needs and desires.

Jerry is why I took the leap in April of this year and started my blog.  She is my muse and pal and will always have a very special place in my heart.

    Final Thoughts

That is Jerry. She is a fantastic cat, and I don’t think my family would be the same without her. Her presence brings us immense joy, and we love her very much; she is such a huge part of this family.
