POST FALLS, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office asked if you saw Thursday's incident where a detective was struck by another car at the Jiffy Stop in Post Falls to let them know.

Around 12:45 p.m. Thursday, a wanted suspect, Emanuel V. Zavala, hit a detective with his vehicle in the gas station parking lot. Zavala had multiple warrants for failing to register as a sex offender.

The detective was able to jump out of the way, avoiding serious injury.

Law enforcement followed Zavala to a home on 3rd Avenue near Spokane Street, but he refused to leave. SWAT was called in and Zavala ended up surrendering.

Zavala was arrested and booked for multiple charges, including aggravated battery, sex offender registry violations, and felony eluding.

The detective who was hit had minor leg injuries.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Bates at 208-446-1351 or jbates@kcgov.us
