Wind Driven Wildfires Spread Quickly East of Lewiston
LEWISTON - After lightning moved through the area on Wednesday, multiple fires have quickly spread in the region. Most of the fire activity is located to the east of Lewiston. Multiple structures were lost as wind fanned the flames throughout the day on Thursday. The entire town of Juliaetta and surrounding areas were placed under a Level 3 (go now) evacuation notice. Highway 3 and Highway 12 are both shut down in the area. As of 6:00 a.m. Friday, the highways were still closed.

Dozens of wildfires burning across the Pacific Northwest and Canada are decreasing air quality throughout North Idaho — and it’s uncertain when skies will clear. Air quality advisories are in place in many southern Idaho counties, and officials say the Air Quality Index across North Idaho is likely to reach advisory levels as wildfire smoke continues to drift into the area. Dan Smith, the regional airshed coordinator at the Idaho Department of Air Quality, said people can expect “real increases” in AQI in the coming days and even weeks, depending on several factors.

The company that wants to build and operate a controversial wind farm near Kamiak Butte North of Pullman unveiled visual simulations of the project to the public Thursday. Steelhead Americas proposal calls for 45 turbines on privately leased ground near the National Natural Landmark. A large coalition of local residents is fighting the Harvest Hills Wind Project. A major focus of the opposition is over impacts the wind turbines will have on the views around the iconic butte. Five arrested on felony drug charges after cocaine bust in Coeur d’Alene
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho - Five men were arrested on felony drug charges after a search uncovered large quantities of cocaine and other substances in Coeur d’Alene. According to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, the Community Action Team, Opioid Task Force, and the combined CDAPD/KCSO SWAT team served a search warrant and several arrest warrants at an apartment in the 4200 block of West Trafford Lane, at Carrington Place Apartments. The warrants followed a several-month investigation.
