As officials arrived at the scene in the 10800 block of Nantucket Terrace, off Falls Road, they found a lightning strike likely caused several homes in the area to experience electrical issues and smoky conditions.

Current forecast from the DC News Now weather team

No fire was evident at the single-family home that first reported smoke, according to Pete Piringer, an MCFRS spokesman.

Piringer said a lighting strike had caused a power surge at several homes, burning an electric meter at two separate residences.

Pepco was at the scene due to power outages in the area. As of 7:15 p.m., Pepco’s Outage Map reported that about five customers in the Potomac area were without power.
