(Pottawattamie Co) Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Officials continue to prepare for historic flooding along the Missouri River.

Emergency Management Director Doug Reed told the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors this morning that voluntary evacuations have been recommended.

The Missouri River is expected to crest at 35.1 feet on Thursday and the Weather Service says the river will rapidly recede. Doug Reed said if there is any silver lining to this particular flood event, it’s not going to be like 2011 or 2019 where flood water stayed around for several months.

In other news, the Supervisors approved an extension of the Proclamation of Disaster Emergency for the April Tornado for another 30 days. The proclamation is now in effect until July 25th. The proclamation activates the disaster response and recovery aspects of the Pottawattamie County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and it authorizes the use and deployment of all available county resources, supplies, equipment and materials as are reasonably necessary to assist citizens located in the disaster area.
