    Poll: Vote for the Journal's March April 29 to May 5 Athletes of the Week

    We've got another week filled with exceptional performances, including milestones, dominant pitching and several outstanding showings in track and field.

    Last week's Athlete of the Week winners were Roosevelt softball player Kayla Baez and Lourdes track and field runner Joseph Nuzzo. Baez received 20,098 votes to win the large-schools poll and Nuzzo got 18,955 to take the small-schools vote.

    Voting will be open until 6 p.m. Friday. This week's nominees:

    Bailey Guckian, Arlington girls track & field

    The eighth-grader won the 1,500 meters in a personal best 4:50.65 at the Joe Wynne Invitational at Somers. Her time in the event was the best in Section 1 this season. She also won the 800 meters (2:22.19) and the 3,000 (10:56.71) at the Section 1 League 1A Championships.

    Cali DeLawder, Roosevelt softball

    She went 9 for 15 with two homers, four doubles, four walks, 11 RBI and nine runs to lead the Presidents in three wins last week.

    Brayden Kuczma, Wappingers boys lacrosse

    The Rochester Institute of Technology commit had a goal and two assists against Carmel, notching his 200th career point.

    Aidan Hartwell, Roosevelt baseball

    The senior allowed two hits and struck out 10 in six innings, leading the Presidents in a 1-0 win over Saugerties.

    Connor Hitt, Ketcham boys track & field

    The senior won the 800 meters (1:57.71) at Roosevelt's Race at the Oval Office and took first in the 3,200 (9:37.55) at the Section 1 League 1A Championships

    Nathaniel Johnson, John Jay boys track & field

    The sophomore won the 200 meters (23.10 seconds), the 110-meter hurdles (15.59) and the 400 hurdles (59.48) at the Section 1 League 1A Championships at Arlington High School.

    Mackenzie Velsmid, Wappingers girls lacrosse

    The midfielder had two goals, five caused turnovers and five draw controls in a 13-8 win over Scarsdale last Saturday. The senior also eclipsed 100 career points and 100 forced turnovers.

    Cartier Joshua, Arlington boys track & field

    He won the high jump (5 feet, 9 inches) and the 100 meters (11.64 seconds) at the Section 1 League 1A Championships. He also took first in the high jump at the Joe Wynne Invitational.

    Nevaeh Haines, Roosevelt girls lacrosse

    She totaled 13 goals and two assists for the Presidents in three games last week, including five goals in a 7-4 win over Chester.

    Riley Pettigrew, Arlington girls track & field

    She won the long jump (16 feet, 6½ inches), the 100 meters (12.62 seconds) and the 200 (26.08) at the Section 1 League 1A Championships.

    Logan Pulitano, Arlington baseball

    He allowed two hits and struck out 10 in 6⅓ innings for the Admirals in a 7-0 win over Mamaroneck.

    Noah Tarkos, Roosevelt boys track & field

    He won the long jump (21 feet, 9 inches) and the high jump (6 feet, 5 inches) at the Race at the Oval Office.

    Leah Gunsett, Marlboro softball

    She allowed four hits and struck out 12 in a complete game, leading the Iron Dukes in a 1-0 win over defending Class D state champion Deposit-Hancock in Binghamton last Saturday. She also pitched a shutout and drove in two runs in a win over Arlington.

    Lucas Carrozza, Pawling baseball

    The freshman hit two home runs in the eighth inning, leading an offensive eruption as Pawling rallied for a 19-10 win over North Salem last Monday.

    Yianna Giannoulis, Red Hook girls lacrosse

    The senior scored a career-high eight goals and had two assists for the Raiders in a 15-9 win over Roosevelt. She also had seven goals to lead them over Rondout Valley.

    Lyndsey Cole, Pawling softball

    The junior went 4 for 4 and hit for the cycle, scoring three runs and driving in three for the Tigers in a win over North Salem last Saturday.

    Callie Sniffen, Haldane softball

    She hit two homers, including a go-ahead grand slam, leading Haldane in a 10-7 win over Croton-Harmon.

    Juliana Juras, Marlboro girls track & field

    The senior won the shot put (37 feet, 2 inches) and took second in the discus (126 feet, 7 inches) behind teammate Victoria Maher at the Race at the Oval Office.

    Liam Gaugler, Haldane boys lacrosse

    The senior scored four goals, including the 100th of his career, in the Blue Devils' 14-5 win over Keio.
