The 4th of July has come and gone, and the guilty consciousness of skiers are starting to activate.

The ski season seems far away, but as the sun sets earlier each day, a ubiquitous phrase from Game of Throne's Stark family is being uttered from coast to coast- Winter is coming .

In order to keep you informed, POWDER is dedicated to covering ski industry news, no matter the season. Without further ado, let's jump into our top stories from July 8-July 14, 2024.

Jonny Moseley makes a notable cameo in Scott Gaffney's 'Breathe'. Do you think he still owns those shades?

Editor's Thoughts: Just when you thought Scott Gaffney couldn't get any cooler , he releases one of his earliest film projects for free. Sit back, relax, pour yourself a cold beverage and enjoy watching this hit of late-90s nostalgia at your leisure. Bonus points if you blow off work in the name of 'historical research'.

    4. Blizzard Skis Offering $60k in Grant Applications from Hilaree Nelson Fundraiser

Story: Blizzard Skis Offering $60k in Grant Applications from Hilaree Nelson Fundraiser

Editor's Thoughts: When I received this information via press release, I knew it was a no-brainer for POWDER to cover. Please consider reading more about the Hilaree Nelson fund here .

    3. La Niña Has 79% Chance of Emerging This Winter

Story: La Niña Has 79% Chance of Emerging This Winter

Synopsis: The writing is on the wall- La Niña will (most likely) return for the Winter '24/'25 season. Will is produce record-breaking snowfall totals like Winter '22/'23? Well, that remains to be seen.

Diagram depicts how La Niña typically affects winter weather in North America. Would it be too much to ask for 'Colder' and 'Wetter' conditions from coast to coast?

Editor's Thoughts: It's easy to get lost in the hype of La Niña and El Niño long range forecasts. Will it snow? Will it snow a lot? Which resorts will get the most snow? It's hard to predict with confidence, but all signs are pointing towards a particularly cold and snowy winter for our friends in the Pacific Northwest. Stay tuned in at POWDER as we keep tabs on the developing La Niña in the Pacific Ocean.

    2. Amie Engerbretson on Hosting X Games Ventura

Story: Amie Engerbretson on Hosting X Games Ventura

Synopsis: Amie Engerbretson is one of the country's most recognizable freeskiers, but commentating on sports like BMX, moto, and skateboarding is a step into something completely new. Senior Editor Matt Lorelli chats with Engerbretson about the experience in this article for POWDER.

Amie Engerbretson smiles for the camera at X Games Ventura. Boyfriend and fellow professional skier Todd Ligare was on-hand for all of Engerbretson's X Games performances.

Editor's Thoughts: It's unusual to see one of our own make such a bold leap into another realm of action sports, but it's not all that surprising if you've been following Engerbretson's career. I was thrilled to pick Amie's brain about the decision and what she has planned next. Is this the next step towards fulfilling her dream of competing on Dancing With the Stars? Maybe!

    1. A Ski Media Renaissance Is Happening on YouTube

Editor's Thoughts: Ever wondered how your favorite professional skiers have time to ski, film, and edit their own videos? Same here. I loved this piece from Ian, and I plan on exploring this topic further. YouTube has changed the game, whether for better or worse.
