The 4th of July has come and gone, and the guilty consciousness of skiers are starting to activate.
The ski season seems far away, but as the sun sets earlier each day, a ubiquitous phrase from Game of Throne's Stark family is being uttered from coast to coast- Winter is coming .
In order to keep you informed, POWDER is dedicated to covering ski industry news, no matter the season. Without further ado, let's jump into our top stories from July 8-July 14, 2024.
5. Scott Gaffney Releases His 1997 Film 'Breathe' for Free
Synopsis: Prolific Tahoe-based filmmaker Scott Gaffney has released his 1997 flick 'Breathe' for free on YouTube. POWDER writer Ella Boyd chats with Gaffney for a quick Q&A about shooting the film in 16mm, the all-star cast of skiers, and more.

Sit back, relax, pour yourself a cold beverage and enjoy watching this hit of late-90s nostalgia at your leisure. Bonus points if you blow off work in the name of 'historical research'.
4. Blizzard Skis Offering $60k in Grant Applications from Hilaree Nelson Fundraiser
Synopsis: Hilaree Nelson passed away in an avalanche on Manaslu, the world's eight tallest peak, but her memory lives on. Blizzard is distributing $60,000 in grants to organizations that support women in sports and fight climate change. All funds were raised from the sale of a special edition pair of skis and a book about Nelson's life.

Synopsis: The writing is on the wall- La Niña will (most likely) return for the Winter '24/'25 season. Will is produce record-breaking snowfall totals like Winter '22/'23? Well, that remains to be seen.

Editor's Thoughts: It's easy to get lost in the hype of La Niña and El Niño long range forecasts. Will it snow? Will it snow a lot? Which resorts will get the most snow? It's hard to predict with confidence, but all signs are pointing towards a particularly cold and snowy winter for our friends in the Pacific Northwest.
