For lack of a better term, the world is a bit crazy at the moment.

Presidential candidates are dodging assassination attempts, everything costs more than it should, and death toll statistics from wars across the globe cast a dark shadow over our lives.

There are plenty of things we can do to help with these issues, but as skiers, how do we escape from all of the noise when we simply need a few moments of peace?

The obvious solution is to go skiing, but that's not viable as a readily-accessible stress reliever throughout the year (for the large majority of us, at least).

Some of us may turn to social media feeds and other video platforms to escape in-between mettings, but algorithms often override our desires with the doom and gloom content that's known to capture our attentions.

POWDER has been The Skier's Magazine since 1972. Through countless world events, tragedies, and disasters, POWDER has persevered as the immersive experience that removes skiers from their problems, and drops them into a world where snow, mountains, and community lead the headlines.

The first edition of POWDER Magazine featured an iconic out-of-this-world cover.

I wrote in August of 2023 about POWDER's then-newly-formed Trending News team. Over the course of the following seven months, our team produced hundreds of quick-hitting news stories that gamed the algorithms mentioned before, and sought to entertain and inform as many readers as possible.

While our Trending News articles weren't every skier's cup of tea, we took pride in knowing that millions of folks were escaping their stressful lives to read our words about the greatest sport on the planet- skiing.

If you've been paying attention to our News feed recently, you might have noticed a significant shift in the length and quantity of our daily news articles and features.

It's been slowly happening for the last few months, but I'm proud to announce today that my team will simply be referred to as POWDER News from here on.

The name change comes with a burden we're happy to carry. Rather than writing quick-hitting stories curated for mass appeal, we have transitioned to a content strategy designed for you- the actual skiers. This was no accident.

In this new strategy, we're favoring longer stories with multiple sources over articles centered around social media posts. Instead of 200-300 words, our articles are averaging 500+ words with an emphasis on premium photography.

This strategy is the centerpiece to re-establishing POWDER Magazine as skier's go-to source for news and entertainment. It's paramount that we have your trust, and continue to build credibility through our work.

Here's what you can expect from the POWDER News Team moving forward in regards to content:

    • 10-15 weekly news stories
    • 3-4 weekly feature stories (800-1500 words)
    • 3 recurring weekend columns

My team currently consists of writers Ian Greenwood and Ella Boyd , Director of Photography David Reddick , and a cast of behind-the-scenes folks that make all of this possible.

Producing high-quality news and feature articles at a consistent basis is our promise to you, the reader. In addition to my team's contributions, POWDER is beginning to welcome the world's best ski-focused freelance writers and photographers back into the fold.
