White Pass Community Rallies for Ski Patroller and Family
By Ella Boyd,
In Washington state, a GoFundMe has been created to help White Pass Ski Area patroller Tyler Forman and his family get back on their feet after the Rimrock Retreat Fire completely consumed their home.
The GoFundMe has already raised over $40,000, more than double the amount of the original goal. The fundraiser--and the donations--is a gesture from "The White Pass Family" to come together and support the Forman family (including their three children) during this difficult aftermath of the destructive fires in the area.
Thousands of acres of land were affected by the recent fires. Yakima Valley Emergency Management issued a Level 3 evacuation order , or the order for people in the area to leave immediately.
More specifically, a Level 3 order is in place for Rimrock Retreat and the surrounding area, authorities said. The Retreat Fire is burning 2,200 acres near Naches and is growing rapidly, according to the Naches Fire Department. Watch news of the fire below.
The writing on the GoFundMe page explains that Tyler Forman is an extremely involved and valued member of the White Pass Ski Area team.
He has "been on the hill every winter of his life as the son of Russ (retired mountain manager) and Kathee Forman, and grandson of Dave (Spike) and Mary Mahre. Currently our IT Manager , Tyler has served as Park Manager, Ticketing Manager, Ski Patrol and more."
Forman acts as a jack-of-all-trades at White Pass. His LinkedIn notes that besides managing the IT, he works as an admin, in operations, as an event manager, and with various equipment around the ski area. He has also worked to maintain lifts and cabling infrastructure.
Outside of skiing, Tyler and Justine are important members of their local community. Both of them consistently donate their time, serve on local non-profit boards, and volunteer at community events.
Tyler is a currently Chapter President and State Board member of the Evergreen Bike Alliance. Tyler has also worked as an Adult Coach at Windells Ski Camp at Mt. Hood and as a Ski Patroller at White Pass.
Our thoughts are with the Forman family and everyone affected by the fires at this time.
