Arapahoe Basin to Host Mountain Clean Up of 'The Beavers' for First Time

Arapahoe Basin is hosting their first-ever "Mountain Clean Up in The Beavers" this Saturday, August 17th.
Officials at Arapahoe Basin said, "we are committed to being thoughtful stewards of our mountain and the White River National Forest and encourage all our guests to join us in this endeavor."

The Mountain Clean Up is capped at 50 people, and according to the event page on Arapahoe Basin's website , is currently full. Mountain Cleanup days are popular, which is great for everyone, because participants are providing much-needed work while enjoying a day spent outdoors.
Earlier this year, on June 11th, Breckenridge employees cleaned up items left behind on Peaks 7, 8, and 9. Their cleanup day resulted in the removal of 800 pounds of trash , four phones, seven pairs of AirPods, nine individual skis, and an entire snowboard.
While these events are free, all participants must register and sign a waiver before the event begins. Officials at A-Basin also advise participants to "prepare for all kinds of weather! Bring layers, a rain jacket, sunscreen, water, and good hiking shoes. The Beavers can get steep in areas so prep for a good hike down the mountain!"

While the schedule is subject to change, the day will begin bright and early at 9 AM with a check-in and safety talk, followed by a 9:30 ride to Lenawee on the Black Mountain Express to reach the summit. At 9:45 a.m. everyone will hike down Beaver Bowl in small guided groups and pick up trash along the way.
At 12:30 p.m., participants will meet up to ride Beavers Chair, and the event finishes with a complementary lunch at 12:45 p.m.
We have nothing but respect for these participants and event organizers. It takes a lot of heart to use one's Saturday to go outside and pick up other people's trash. What people might not tell you, though, is there might be something in it for them. It may be cliche, but it is for a reason: friendships, sunshine, and the feeling of doing something good are all things money can't buy.
