Freeskiing Olympian Seriously Injured During Summer Training

Earlier today, August 23, 2024 beloved freeskier Henrik Harlaut broke some tough news: he slammed and dislocated his hip during dryland training on an airbag. He shared the photos below from the incident.

Harlaut was taken to the hospital, where his hip was set back in place. He acknowledged that he isn’t sure how long the recovery process will be but is feeling much better now. Hip dislocations tend to involve a recovery process that lasts several months. Fractures can extend the recovery period.

Beyond that, there’s still a lot we don’t know—more news of Harlaut’s eventual return to snow should come out in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, Harlaut’s getting plenty of love. Below his announcement of the hip dislocation, numerous pros chimed in to express their support, illustrating his stature within the sport. Fans don’t just appreciate his infectious passion for skiing—his peers do, too. Tom Wallisch, Markus Eder, and Bobby Brown, among others, dropped a comment. Conway the Machine, a rapper whose music appeared in Harlaut and Noah Albaladejo’s recent street flick, BRUSHINO , also chimed in. “Heal up homie,” Conway wrote.

As a professional freeskier, Harlaut’s already dealt with—and surmounted—a long-term injury. In 2016, he suffered a knee injury at the B&E Invitational, which he pushed through for multiple seasons. A few accolades Harlaut notched while one of his knees wasn’t at 100%: first in Dew Tour, first in X Games big air, first in X Games slopestyle, and first at the Slvsh Cup. The list goes on.

Then, in 2019, he decided to go under the knife—in more ways than one. Harlaut considered the surgery a fresh start, so he also lopped off his iconic dreadlocks.

Since then, Harlaut’s kept his momentum up. He snatched multiple X Games medals and, in 2022, took bronze for his big air performance at the Winter Olympics. That’s to say—Harlaut probably won’t stay down for long. The man’s motivated.
