Keep Your Clips Up #18: Best Ski Videos of the Week

There was some pretty big ski news this week. But on the clips end, I have a confession to make: boy , was it dry, which, given the time of year, isn’t shocking.

I scrounged around and found some good options, but that final fifth clip proved elusive. I searched and searched and began to despair as time wore on. Should I just sneak a cooking video in there and see if no one notices? What about a skateboarding video? That’s close enough, right?

Then, at the 11th hour, my savior arrived: a furry creature. But first, here's some action from Jonah Williams.

Jonah Williams' Michelin Star Worthy Butter

This is admittedly a subject I harp a lot on in Keep Your Clips Up , but screw it, let’s harp a little more. Like most of you, I think the newfangled triple corks pros are throwing these days rock. The athleticism is undeniable. But sometimes, all I want is to watch someone execute something simple on skis really, really well, like this butter from Jonah Williams. It’s sort of like those fancy restaurants that serve singularly focused dishes—“Monsieur, here’s your single, braised scallop”—but better.

Level 1 Heads to the Wasteland

Level 1’s back, folks, but they weren’t actually gone. While the production company closed the final chapter of its annual full-length films with Romance , they’ve stayed busy, hosting SuperUnknown and creating Full Circle , a moving documentary about Trevor Kennison. They've also been involved with numerous shorts, including Lemonade, Something, and Wind For Whistles.

Their next film, WASTELAND , a featurette, is coming soon. It seems to have all the right ingredients. Filmmakers Owen Dahlberg and Andrew Mildenberger are behind the lens, and the athlete roster is stacked. I’ll let the trailer do the rest of the talking.

    Nick Goepper Gets Ramped

A few weeks ago, I hopped on the phone with Nick Goepper for a quick call. The reason? He’d posted some photos of a giant wooden ramp somewhere in the middle of the desert. I wanted to know what was going on—Goepper’s using it to hone his halfpipe skills, it turns out—but even more so, I wanted to see someone go off the ramp. That day has come. The ramp works, and it’s a sight to behold.

Throwback Time With the Freeride World Tour

Last season on the Freeride World Tour, we were treated to an absolute deluge of top-notch big-mountain skiing. The guys and gals stepped up majorly, and going into next winter, things will probably get even wilder. In the meantime, the FWT recently rehashed Ben Richards’ winning run from the 2024 Fieberbrunn Pro. It’s speedy. It’s technical. It’s got everything to get dedicated freeride fans going.

    A Spiky Friend Invades Perisher

Remember that creature? Here it is. Australia, where this video was filmed, has a bad rap with the whole animals thing. Tarantulas, snakes, kangaroos with hands —down under, it seems like you’re locked in a constant battle against nature. But this creature—likely an echidna—tells a different, gentler story. Sure, you shouldn’t want to touch the guy, but if you leave him alone, he’ll probably leave you alone. He seems reasonable.
