The top story of the last week has been... snow! Yes, that's right. The first snowfalls of the season were recorded at Mt. Bachelor, OR; Palisades Tahoe, CA; and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, WY all within the last four days.
Summer will make its return, but the freak storm is a reminder of better times to come. In the meantime, let's revisit POWDER's best ski stories from last week, August 19-25, 2024.
5. New Ski Video Game Featuring Phil Casabon and Henrik Harlaut in the Works
B&E Ski features Phil Casabon as his iconic B-DOG character and Henrik Harlaut as a goblin.
Synopsis: An independent video game developer has been tasked by freeskiing legends Phil Casabon and Henrik Harlaut to create skiing's next video game hit. The game is still early-on in development, but the first gameplay release is promising.
Editor's Thoughts: Article author Ian Greenwood and I share a love for skiing video games, and have reminisced about fond memories playing the games of our childhoods. When we saw that two of our shared favorite skiers (Harlaut and Casabon) were collaborating on a video game, we simply couldn't resist. Here's hoping we can get our thumbs on a joystick to play this game before too long!
4. Matchstick Productions Releases Trailer for 2024 Film 'Calm Beneath Castles'
Synopsis: Iconic film studio Matchstick Productions has released the trailer for their new film, Calm Beneath Castles. Give the trailer a watch and get excited. Like any MSP project, the film includes a stacked list of athletes and locations you won't want to miss.

Editor's Thoughts: Noah Gaffney is not like us (in his desire for the most extreme, at least), that much is clear. I found myself incredibly intrigued by Ella's ability to peel back the layers on Gaffney and ultimately let us into what makes him tick.

Synopsis: Love it or hate, the predictions made by The Old Farmer's Almanac are part of American culture. Millions of folks look to their forecasts to prepare for winter, plan vacations, or to simply peer into the future. POWDER has broken down the publication's Winter '24/'25 predictions as they pertain to skiers.
Editor's Thoughts: Long-range weather forecast excite me, but I've grown to separate my emotions from them in recent years. I can get borderline obsessed with analyzing snow forecasts and have decided its better for my health to just take Winter for what it is. If you're not like me, enjoy the promising forecast for Winter '24/'25. The Old Farmer's Almanac seems to believe it will be a good one.
Synopsis: POWDER writer Ian Greenwood speaks with members of the LINE Skis team about what comes next for the iconic brand. Spoiler, LINE Skis has plenty of creative and industry-shaking plans in their immediate future.
Editor's Thoughts: LINE Skis has undergone their fair share of ups and downs over the last nearly three decades, but what would you expect for a brand that was started in a garage and paved the way as the first ever freeskiing company? I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in the queue after reading Ian's Feature story.
