East Coasters to Benefit from JetBlue's New Flights to Bozeman, MT

High rolling skiers, this one's for you—JetBlue is boosting its Bozeman, Montana, air service with Mint, the airline’s equivalent to first class, during the height of the ski season.

Starting in February, JetBlue will offer flights with Mint on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Boston, Massachusetts; and New York, New York; to Bozeman.

Previously, JetBlue operated flights on these routes on alternating days with its core service, which will remain in place during the week. It’s the only airline to offer nonstop service from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Bozeman.

Mint is a swanky in-flight offering. It features fully lie-flat seats, restaurant-style dishes, 15-inch or larger TVs, and priority boarding, among other perks. There are multiple types of Mint seats with naming conventions real estate agents will be familiar with.

Mint Seats are, well, seats with many of the Mint first-class style bells and whistles. On some flights, Mint Seats are single-person cubicles called Suites. Mint studios take that model further: they’re even bigger cubicles with a little bench so your friend can come hang out as long as the plane is at cruising altitude.

JetBlue’s Mint service—like other first-class flight programs—isn't cheap. I poked into the airline’s offerings in February. On Friday, February 28th, a nonstop flight from JFK to Bozeman costs $154. With Mint, that same flight costs $1,226. (Flight prices change regularly, but you get the picture.)

Adding a premium air service from hotspots like New York and Boston makes sense for JetBlue—there’s probably no shortage of wealthy travelers visiting the city. Over the past few decades, Bozeman’s developed a reputation for its moneyed crowd. The city is popularly known as Boz Angeles because, according to a 2006 article from The New York Times Magazine , there is an influx of celebrities and Californians. As a resident of Missoula, Montana, I can confirm that the nickname has stuck.

Despite this, Bozeman’s local ski scene is varied. Yes, Big Sky Resort has the ski area infrastructure that would likely appeal to wealthy travelers (and hardcore skiers—Lone Mountain is no joke) from New York, but Bridger Bowl—which is closer to Bozeman—embodies a different, grittier vibe. Two-seaters, gnarly locals, and committing lines are all part of skiing at Bridger Bowl. Plus, it's a non-profit.

That’s to say—whatever kind of ski traveler you are, you can have it both ways in Bozeman, more so now that JetBlue’s upping the premium flight experience ante.
