Big Sky, MT Eliminates Some Fees for Lone Peak Tram Access

Big Sky Resort, Montana has eliminated additional fees for Lone Peak Tram access from its daily and pre-purchased lift tickets.

Starting next winter, lift tickets at Big Sky Resort will include unlimited access to the newly improved Lone Peak Tram . With a lift ticket in hand, you can ride the towering tram as much as you’d like, a departure from the previous program.

The Lone Peak Tram offers access to committing terrain off Big Sky's Lone Mountain.

In 2021, the resort decoupled lift tickets and tram access, charging skiers on a per-use basis—alongside their separate lift ticket purchase—to control skier and snowboarder traffic up Lone Mountain. That approach is now gone.

However, separate Lone Peak Tram charges still exist outside of lift tickets. Ikon , Mountain Collective , and select Big Sky pass holders will continue using auto-charge to access the Lone Peak Tram. Based on Big Sky's estimates, these charges will cost between $10 and $40 depending on demand. Scenic rides are offered at a lower price point.

Two season pass types offer varying degrees of tram access. The Gold Season Pass includes unlimited tram access and costs $2,400. The Double Black Season Pass includes 25 ski or snowboard tram rides. It costs $2,200.

“The new tram has exceeded expectations in every way. We promised we would reevaluate the tram experience each year, and this move provides flexibility and value with our product lineup while offering more guests access to Lone Peak,” said Troy Nedved, the resort’s General Manager.

Previously, lift ticket holders had to pay to use the Lone Peak Tram on a per-ride basis. Now, they have unlimited access to the tram.

Big Sky will continue monitoring skier and snowboarder traffic to avoid overcrowding on Lone Mountain.

Lift tickets to Big Sky are available now, and if you shoot for the beginning or end of the season, aren’t exorbitantly expensive. At the time of writing this, tickets in early December and late April are as low as $56. Tickets during busier periods can get pricey though, sometimes exceeding $200. Most cost between $100 and $200.

So, even with the new bundling of lift tickets and tram access, we still recommend looking at the multi-pass options available to skiers. Depending on how much you want to ski during the season, a multi-pass could be the best way to save money.

Big Sky Resort's Winter '24/'24 projected opening day is November 27, 2024.
