Old Farmer's Almanac Debuts Canada's Winter 2024-2025 Forecast

Winter is cold in Canada, that's no secret, but just how cold will it be? According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, Canada's Winter 2024-2025 will be defined by a "Heart of Cold". Check out Canada's full forecast map below.

Canada's 2024-2025 forecast has significantly less variables than that of the United States, but that shouldn't be of much surprise considering the country's northerly disposition.

Carol Connare, the Almanac’s editor-in-chief, released the following statement regarding Canada's Winter 2024-2025 forecast:

“‘Temperate’ is on tap for most of the country this winter, but let it snow in Ontario! A winter of big freezes and heavy snowfall will be centered in Ontario and eastern Manitoba, while most of the rest of the country will get some relief and reprieve from snow shoveling and super-cold temperatures.”

The forecast doesn't look fantastic for powder-hungry skiers, but don't let The Old Farmer's Almanac's short and sweet descriptions deter you. These are long-range forecasts that are certainly subject to change.

With that in mind, interior and coastal British Columbia skiers are getting ready to slam the panic button after seeing this map. 'Cold, Dry' aren't the two words you want to see defining a season. 'Cold' is usually a good thing, but 'Dry' certainly isn't.

Moving east, Alberta's ski resorts should see an average season based on The Old Farmer's Almanac's predictions. 'Cool, Wet' doesn't sound ideal, but the majority of Alberta's major ski resorts (Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, etc.) are situated at high elevations. Meaning it's unlikely, even if there's a slight increase in temperature, that these storms would produce rain rather than snow. Keep your eyes peeled, but Alberta might be celebrating an above-average season when Winter 2024-2025 is said and done.

Parts of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and western Ontario are predicted to have a 'Cold, Snowy' winter according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. There aren't any major ski areas in these provinces, but the small family-run hills and community ski areas that dot the countryside are celebrating. The region has been plagued by above-average temperatures and rain in recent seasons. A cold and snowy winter would be welcomed by powder-starved skiers throughout the area.

Last, but certainly not least, is Quebec. The province is home to popular ski areas such as Mont-Saint-Anne, Tremblant, and Le Massif de Charlevoix. Unfortunately for these ski areas, The Old Farmer's Almanac is calling for a 'Mild, Dry' winter. The only thing worse for a ski season would be 'Warm, Wet', but skiers tend to be pessimistic without much effort. Here's hoping that forecast adjusts for our French-Canadian friends.
