Another contender has joined the race. This morning, Brian Head Resort, Utah, announced that it plans to open for skiing on Friday, November 8th. As always, the weather and conditions permitting caveat apply.
The Utah resort has invested nearly $1.4 million in capital improvements. Three new trails—two beginner and one intermediate—will debut next season at Brian Head, bringing the resort’s total to 74. The new runs are part of a yearslong tree glading effort designed to maintain a healthy forest.
The resort’s snowmaking system has received a boost, too. Brian Head replaced 2,400 feet of snowmaking line and added new energy-efficient LED lighting to improve the night skiing experience. Several lifts, including Giant Steps Express and Navajo Express, have new loading ramps to make getting on the chair easier.
Like Purgatory Resort, Colorado , Brian Head is offering affordable advance tickets. Depending on the date, these advance tickets are as cheap as $19. The price increases considerably during the busier parts of the season—in late December, tickets to Brian Head currently cost $75 or more. Similarly, Brian Head uses a dynamic, demand-based pricing model, so those $19 tickets probably won't last forever.
There’s another commonality between Purgatory and Brian Head—both resorts are part of the Power Pass, a multi-mountain pass. While the complete pass currently costs $1,049, the Power Kids—for children 12 and younger—is free and offers unlimited skiing at numerous Power Pass destinations, including Brian Head.
This season will mark Brian Head’s 60th anniversary. Opening on January 7th, 1965, the resort has grown since its humble origins and now touts 650 acres of skiable terrain, eight lifts, and two ski lodges. This coming January, Brian Head will honor its 60th anniversary with on-mountain activities and events.
“We are thrilled to celebrate our 60-year milestone," says Tom Pettigrew, general manager at Brian Head Resort. “This achievement is a testament to the support of our community, the dedication of our amazing team, and the loyal guests who have made Brian Head Resort a part of their winter traditions.”
