The UK-based manufacturer Rab has been on the forefront of making high-end mountaineering and skiing apparel for the past few years, but it's surprisingly taken a while for these products to get recognition in North America. Their new women's Khroma Converge GTX jacket and pants might well change that, with an excellent combination of features and fit that will make most skiers happy. It's quite similar to the men's Khroma Diffuse GTX line, but testers found some of the small details to be even better, and particularly well-suited for both foul-weather resort and backcountry skiing.
The Khroma Converge Jacket has all the features you would expect from a high-end Gore-Tex jacket, and comes with a slightly burlier feel and construction than the men's Diffuse. With that, it gains a more bombproof feel. Testers also found it had a more unique and flattering cut. It has a TON of pockets, including four zippered chest pockets for flexible storage of just about anything and of course drop-in mesh and pass pockets. It has notably nice adjustment details like cinches and drawstrings in the right places, and testers loved the weatherproofness of the internal wrist gaiters.
The pants feature the same construction as the jacket and are clearly built to last. The ankle zippers are very long so you can open them way up, allowing you to pull the pants on over your boots. The vents are massive too, meaning you can get tons of airflow into these for skinning and bootpacking, although the pants are very breathable as it is. There are burly kick patches to stop your skis from cutting up the gaiters and all in all, the pants are just as much a cut above the rest as the jacket. Unfortunately, unlike the men's Diffuse pants, these seem to skip a dedicated beacon pocket, but testers found that the hip pockets worked well to carry a beacon.
Who is the Rab Khroma Converge Jacket and Pant for?
Testers found that this is a deluxe resort kit that would happily do some backcountry duty too. We were super impressed by how tough this kit felt, and more than anything it feels like it would last you year after year. If you're looking for a single ski kit to last you multiple seasons of hard use, this would be an excellent choice.
Fit Guide:
These have a slightly relaxed fit even if you go true to size. For anything approaching baggy, size up 1-2 sizes. Use those belt loop for your Capeesh belt and you’ll be golden.
