Ski movie season is here! It’s that time of year again where those intrusive thoughts of skiing blower pow, hucking cliffs, and ski town glory start to take up space in our minds again, all while we’re still walking around in summer temps wearing flip flops and shorts. With a dusting of snow gracing the high peaks of the Tetons (perfect timing), Teton Gravity Research hosted the World Premiere of their latest ski movie Beyond The Fantasy in Teton Village's Walk Festival Hall this past Saturday.

In true fashion, a whole stack of TGR athletes showed up to the party, spending the better part of the evening signing posters (and copies of the new Powder Print Gear Issue), mingling with fans, and tossing industry swag into the crowd. The groms were stoked to meet their heroes, walk away with fresh ski setups, and showcase who could hold the longest plank. The energy was electric as the lights dimmed and the footage started rolling on TGR’s 29th annual ski film–that’s a long time to be doing things!

As we’ve come to expect from a brand of this pedigree, TGR packed it all in with Beyond the Fantasy , with appearances from more A-list skiers (and a handful of snowboarders) than we could count, shot on location all across the world. Not all mountain ranges are made the same, but it’s remarkable to see how TGR has mastered the art of bringing out the best of each, from Norway, to the Austrian Alps, to Alaska.

This year, we were graced with two high-octane AK heli segments, some beautifully meditative human-powered skiing in Norway, plenty of backcountry freestyle action from Jackson Hole and British Columbia, and so much more. The athlete roster spanned generations, with heavy-hitting appearances from veterans Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Ian McIntosh, Griffin Post and Tim Durtschi leading into groundbreaking skiing from the next generation’s best like Kai Jones, Parkin Costain, and Simon Hillis. The ladies showed up in serious style, with Maggie Voisin, Emily Childs, Janelle Yip and Alex Armstrong slaying massive AK spine lines.

The film wasn’t all action, however, with a return to TGR’s trademark silly humor highlighting the unique and whimsically imaginative characters all these skiers are. There’s everything from questionable cowboy humor, hilarious throwbacks to old TGR flicks for all the superfans, to a pretty wild Krampus appearance chasing a naughty Colter Hinchliffe through the streets of a small Austrian village.

While we recognize ski media is an ever-evolving artform , it’s refreshing to see that TGR is still at it year after year bringing us the on-screen bangers and the off-screen party. Ski movie season is an indelible mark of ski culture, and it’s something we still cherish deeply here at Powder .

Beyond the Fantasy is now on its annual tour, with showings all across the US and Canada from now until the end of the year. Catch a screening at a theater near you!
