On-mountain safety is a big deal for the Freeride World Tour (FWT), with skiers and snowboarders competing on massive mountain faces littered with rocks, variable snow conditions, and risk of avalanches. Despite the FWT team working to mitigate the risk at every venue through avalanche control and keeping a close eye on conditions, the worst can still happen, so every rider on tour is required to compete wearing an avalanche beacon and an avalanche airbag.

This year, the FWT announced a new partnership with the Swiss company Mammut, who has been making some of the best backcountry safety products in recent history, including the Barryvox and Barryvox S beacons, technical ski apparel, and a whole suite of airbag packs for freeride and backcountry skiing. That means FWT athletes, staff, media, and guides will be equipped with some of the best gear on the market when they are on the mountain for the Tour. Speaking of, keep an eye out for the full '24-'25 calendar announcement coming on October 3rd.

On top of supplying gear, Mammut is planning to provide safety workshops for athletes, the public, and the media, to ensure that everyone using the products knows how to use them properly.

“Safety should always be the top priority for athletes pushing their limits in freeride sports,” said Heiko Schäfer, CEO of Mammut, in a press release. "For decades, Mammut has supported athletes and riders worldwide, providing them with the tools they need to tackle any terrain safely, no matter how challenging. We are thrilled to partner with the Freeride World Tour for the next four years and help cultivate a culture of safety and awareness in the freeride community."

The partnership will officially launch at the first stop of the Freeride World Tour in Baqueira Beret, Spain, happening from January 18 to 23, 2025.
