Frontier, an airline known for its affordable fares, is debuting service into and out of Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), a flight hub near Vail, Colorado.
By car, Vail is over two hours away from Denver International Airport. The distance between Vail and EGE is considerably shorter, clocking in at about 30 minutes.
The owner of Vail business Skipper & Scout told the VailDaily that the development was, "amazing," noting that local ski resorts have lost skier traffic to other destinations with closer airports. Beaver Creek and Aspen Snowmass are also easily accessed from EGE, alongside Vail Ski Resort and others.
According to a press release published by Frontier, flights from EGE to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), operating twice weekly, will launch on December 16th. Service to Denver International Airport (DEN), operating twice weekly, will launch on December 19th. Service to San Francisco International Airport (SFO), operating once weekly, will launch on December 21st.
To celebrate the airline’s first foray into EGE service, Frontier is offering discounted fares as low as $99.
“Frontier is thrilled to connect consumers in Colorado, Texas, California, and beyond with the incredible beauty, world-class skiing, and endless recreational opportunities this area of Colorado is famous for,” said Jennifer de la Cruz, the senior director of corporate communications at Frontier.
The arrival of Frontier in Eagle County offers ski tourists a new, inexpensive way to access several destination resorts. The airline sells wickedly cheap tickets and the unique Go Wild! All-You-Can-Fly Pass , which offers unlimited flights within a predetermined time frame for a flat fee. In May, Frontier debuted the GoWild! Fall & Winter Pass, effective between September 2nd, 2023, and February 29th, 2024. That pass currently costs $299.
Frontier isn’t the only airline that has expanded its service to EGE. In July, Alaska Airlines announced it would begin operating flights from Seattle, Washington, and San Diego, California, to EGE three times a week starting December 20th. Other airlines serving EGE include American Airlines and Delta.
Two of the ski resorts near EGE—Vail and Beaver Creek—are angling to open for skiing and riding in the not-so-distant future. They are scheduled to open on November 15th and November 27th, respectively. Aspen Snowmass plans to open two of its four mountains—Snowmass and Aspen Mountain—on November 28th. Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands are scheduled to open on December 14th.
