What does heli-skiing outfit Silverton Mountain Guides, located in Girdwood, Alaska, do when it dumps feet of snow in October? Go skiing, of course!

Watch below as Silverton guide Josh McKnight scores some of the first deep powder turns of the North American winter season on October 7, 2024.

According to data collected by the National Weather Service , some areas near Girdwood are sporting snow base depths of more than 70 inches on October 8, 2024. Further proving that the video above is no fluke.

The 'Alaska Railroad near Portage Snow Depth 30 Day Plot', which is geographically close to Girdwood, Alaska, is currently reporting a 73 inch base depth. The same plot had a zero inch base depth on October 3, 2024.

Meanwhile, Girdwood's Alyeska Resort is mostly void of snow except for a light dusting at the top of The Glacier Bowl Express. Elevation clearly played a major factor in how snow accumulated with only the highest peaks benefitting from any substantial snowfall. Photos from Alyeska's webcams below.
