This is the time of year when I really start to get the itch. The ski movies, the colder temperatures, and the snowmaking tests all add to the growing reality that, in a few short months or weeks, we’ll all be sliding down snow.

In the summer, skiing becomes more of a concept than a physical thing. By late July or August, the previous season gets cached so deep in the old memory banks that, sometimes, it feels like more of a dream than a thing that actually happened. Other outdoor stuff starts pulling our attention away from snow-capped mountains when the weather warms. Then, that first leaf turns orange. And another. And another. Those once buried memories of powder turns feel more real once old man winter starts knocking at the door again. I’m ready for it. I assume you are, too.

Watching ski videos may or may not be how you deal with the pre-season jitters. If it is, you’re in the right place. These are five bangers from the previous week that’ll help you pass the idle time while we wait for those first storms to arrive.

A SLVSH Match for the Ages

What happens when you put two monstrously good park skiers in a trick-for-trick matchup? This game of SLVSH. It’s a doozy. Coming into it, I had no idea where to put my money. Both Kuura and Matej are decidedly next-generation skiers capable of throwing tricks that, based on the laws of physics, don’t seem possible. They’re incredibly good at what they do. I won’t spoil the game, but this much is undeniable: Kuura and Matej will be ones to watch for years to come.

    Good Old Fashioned Shredding

With PANTHERA , LINE Skis team member Lalo Rambaud keeps it simple, throwing equally gorgeous backflips and slashes as he descends the slopes of Treble Cone. The cinematography is on-point here—as is the skiing—making this short a great way to kill a couple of minutes.

    Parkin Costain Versus Monospine

The slow drip of Teton Gravity Research Beyond The Fantasy continues. In this quick bite from the new film, Parkin Costain steps up to Monospine, a previously un-skied line that’ll terrify even the most seasoned big mountain skiers. True to his name, Costain laces it with plenty of style and grace.

    ASMR Park Skiing

Skiing sounds good. So good, in fact, that some edits, like this one featuring Christian Nummedal, work great, even without a soundtrack. The drone of the wind, the clang of skis as they smash into metal rails, the audible noise of sharp edges scraping against icy takeoffs—it’s a bit like ASMR, but for skiers. If you’re in need of a brain massage, Nummedal’s wintry orchestra should do the trick.

    Even the Best Laid Plans

Keep Your Clips Up has hewed towards successful tricks and lines. What can I say? People like to watch stomps. But sometimes, it’s fun to watch things go wrong, particularly when the bail involved is lighthearted, and no one gets hurt. This clip from Kevin Rolland checked those boxes and was almost so cool. Here’s hoping he gets the setup figured out eventually.
