Winter Park: A "Town Gondola," a Run that Links the Resort and Town (!!!)

So, Winter Park. If you knew what is going on here, your head would spin. It will spin.

It's that fun ski resort and town that's just a stone's throw from Denver and boasts some of the best skiing in Colorado.

Here's why your noggin will be doing the hula:

The resort's master plan calls for a "Town Gondola" linking the resort and the Town, which is about 2 miles away.

While that sounds wild, here's something wilder: there's talk of connecting the town to the resort with a ski run!

    No kidding.

That run would be something like 2 miles long—like the proposed gondola.

I caught up with Winter Park Mayor Nick Kutrumbos this morning (above), and we chatted about the resort, the "city" (of Winter Park), the City of Denver (which plays a big role in regards to Winter Park), and how he's feeling about creating a genuine European Village in north central Colorado.

Here's a hard-to-read map of the gondola proposal (the red leg on the right):

It's worth a listen, and I apologize for being a nob while Nick's talking.

    I'm pretty excited, obviously.

    See you out there!

Author's note: Nick just called in these corrections:

Resort terminal will be less than 100 yards from the train platform not 1000!!

Resort will be the operator of the gondola, not the town.
