World Cup Races (and Mikaela) Set for Beaver Creek in December

Mikaela Shiffrin is coming home. The Edwards skier is finally going to race a World Cup in the Vail Valley..

The Vail Valley Foundation and U.S. Ski & Snowboard made the announcement about the Beaver Creek races yesterday.

This season there will be 11 domestic World Cups with two exciting alpine additions—a women’s Birds of Prey has been added right after the annual men’s speed races plus Sun Valley is set to host World Cup Finals. This will be the first-time finals are held in the USA since 2017, according to a statement.

“The opportunity for women to race speed on the historic Birds of Prey course in Beaver Creek is thrilling!” said Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn in a statement. “I love that the women will be racing on the same track as the men, and I can’t wait to cheer them on in a place that is very special to me.”

The approved men’s and women’s racing calendars include:

Stifel Birds of Prey Men's Races

• DEC 6: Men's Downhill
• DEC 7: Men's Super G
• DEC 8: Men's Giant Slalom
  *Training is currently tentatively scheduled DEC 3-5

Stifel Birds of Prey Women's Races

• DEC 14: Women's Downhill
• DEC 15: Women's Super G
  *Training is currently tentatively scheduled DEC 11-13

Besides Shiffin a few other luminaries of the sport are expected to attend, including River Radamus.

“I love racing at Beaver Creek. I have a lot of great memories skiing there, particularly from World Champs in 2015,” said Shiffrin. “It’s an iconic World Cup speed track with a best in the world course crew—The Talon Crew—and the surface is always incredible.”
