    Frisco Unveils EV Carshare Program

    Vroom vroom!

In partnership with Xcel Energy and Colorado CarShare , the Town of Frisco this morning announced the launch of a new electric vehicle (EV) carshare program.

The program gives residents and visitors the option to reserve an electric carshare vehicle. They're located at the Third Avenue charging stations, just off Main Street.

The Town says that the program "aligns directly with the Town’s commitment to providing quality core services, that reduce the effects of climate change, and support a thriving economy through mobility improvements."

    Good stuff. I'm a fan.

“EV carsharing is a great option for residents to reduce car ownership or for visitors who plan to leave their car at home," said Frisco Environmental Programs Manager Hilary Sueoka. "It’s also a great way for local residents to try an EV for the first time.”

Colorado CarShare is a non-profit organization that operates over 75 carshare locations throughout Colorado, including four locations in Summit County.

With help from Xcel Energy, who provided funding for carshare charging stations to be installed adjacent to the existing chargers on Third Avenue, Xcel also provided rebates to Colorado CarShare for the EV.

Yep, at the moment the program has only one vehicle—but more are expected.

Sueoka told Powder this afternoon that a second vehicle will be added once the new charging stations are installed—and that it should be fairly soon. All carshare vehicles will be equipped for Summit County driving, including snow tires, ski racks, and a bike rack during the relevant season.

How to Use the New Carshare Program

To use a vehicle, the first step is to sign up for membership at carshare.org and use the promo code FRISCO_X, which will waive the application fee and will add $50 in CarShare credits to the first 100 new Frisco members.

After becoming a member, the carshare vehicles can be reserved up to four months in advance and are available for anything from quick trips (15 minutes) to multiple days. Members simply retrieve the vehicle at the time of their reservation and return it to the same spot when their trip is complete.
