ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Powdersville Fire Department confirmed that a dumpster fire Thursday morning was due to an improper disposal of fireworks.

Firefighters responded before 4 a.m. to a business on Highway 153 in reference to the fire.

A booster line was used to extinguish the fire, officials said.

Due to the proximity of the dumpster to the building, firefighters said decorative lights did melt from the heat of the fire. Officials believe the fire did not spread to the facility because the dumpster was about empty.

While on the scene, officials located firework containers that had been placed in the dumpster before being wet down.

It was determined the disposal was what led to the fire.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The fire remains under investigation by the Powdersville Fire Department.
