My buddy Dave and I were on Shirley Lake Express at Squaw Valley USA as it was called then. Ice was blowing off the cornices, and the lift had to be stopped leaving us suspended. We kept hitting the support towers for the lift! Dave ended up the next day in the hospital. I've fragments shattered his frozen contact lens. He got an abraded cornea ( very painful). One thing I can say about that day: skiing over to Atic ( big gap in the rocks) and having the wind lift me and carry me for, say, sixty feet? Priceless! Only problem is that you end up barrelling down at breakneck speed, into moguls!
