PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — Loud noises, traffic, people playing at all hours of the day. Those were a few of the concerns some residents brought to city council members Monday night in Prairie Village.

But other residents say they don’t have a problem.

“I like having an active park. I like people being engaged and the neighborhood coming together there,” said James Stinson.

At first, six courts were open for players to use at Windsor Park. Then it was cut down to two to help with the complaints while the city looked for other solutions. That decision came Monday night.

Three courts will be used to play pickleball but one will be a tennis court with pickleball lines. The other courts will be repainted back to tennis courts.

People at the park say the back and forth just needs to stay on the court.

“It’s a half-baked idea I think that maybe it was popular in the beginning and maybe we don’t need to change the court but the policies around it,” said Adam Dieterman, who lives near Windsor Park.

The city also address that point, with plans to add locks, and update signage to let people know, you can play after dusk or before dawn.

The council voted $29,000 to be used towards the changes.

City council members say the public works department is already working on getting the locks in soon and updating the signage.
