Shawnee Mission School District moves to comply with Kansas fire safety requirement
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - The Shawnee Mission School District will pay thousands of dollars to comply with fire safety requirements. During Monday’s school board meeting, members discussed the requirement that the fire safety system of all buildings used for district programs need to have the system inspected quarterly instead of annually.

The Salina City Commission held a public hearing at its regular meeting yesterday, July 23 to decide whether to list the Ambassador Hotel as a dangerous structure. The seemingly abandoned 192-room hotel, located at 1616 W. Crawford Street in Salina, has been owned by various chains since it opened in the 1980s under its first name, "The Holiday Inn Holidome." Later the hotel was rebranded as a Ramada before it was named "The Ambassador."

Barton Co. Health Dept. asking public to complete mental health survey
One goal of the Barton County Health Department is determining the needs of county residents and assessing whether or not those needs are being met by area healthcare providers. Mental health remains one of the largest problem areas. Katelyn Sigler, public health educator at the health department, said that's less about resources and more about the public not knowing about those resources. A new suicide prevention survey is aimed at raising awareness about those resources.
