New York under a flash flood warning Monday night
A flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 7:52 p.m. in effect until 10 p.m. for Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga and Seneca counties. "At 7:52 p.m., Emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area with creeks rising above bankfull and water approaching a house in Cayuga county. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring," comments the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."

Cortland Fire Department receives federal funding
CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – The City of Cortland and its firefighters will benefit from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding. The Cortland Fire Department (CFD) has been awarded about $48,000 for new protective gear and training through DHS FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Binghamton, Elmira, and Whitney Point join Cortland as Southern Tier winners.
