Wausau Legion baseball routs Merrill
MERRILL – Wausau scored five times in the opening inning and rolled to a 9-1 win over Merrill in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday. Jed Vanden Sanden capped the first-inning rally with a two-run single to put Wausau up 5-0. The Bulldogs added single runs in the second and third, and scored two more in the fourth.
Lake Monona’s foam has highest PFAS levels in Wisconsin, study finds
If you spend enough time near lakes or rivers, you might sometimes spot a fluffy layer of foam near the shore. For years, health and environmental officials warned Wisconsinites to steer clear of that foam. Though it’s usually made mostly of plants and microbes, it also concentrates the toxic chemicals called PFAS found in the waters below.

LIMA, Peru (WSAW) - Wisconsin Rapids native Brett Back is taking home the gold. Back won the gold medal at the U20 Pan-American Championships at 72kg in Greco-Roman style on Thursday in Lima, Peru. Back won by a pin over Jorge Gomez Garcia of Mexico to win the gold medal.

North Woods Summer Art Tour set for July 26
The Northwoods long awaited summer is here (most days), so that means the North Woods Summer Art Tour is coming soon. Wisconsin’s finest artists will open their doors to their studios and galleries for visitors Friday July 26 through Sunday 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This unique, self-directed studio tour in Vilas, Oneida, Iron, and Lincoln counties offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the creative process firsthand by visiting artist studios, interacting with creators, and witnessing their craft come to life. Brochures, studio descriptions, driving directions, and a map are available at area businesses, chambers of commerce, and online at northwoodsarttour.com. The tour is free to all. The Art Tour began in 2000 featuring 20 artists. This year’s tour has 44 artists at 35 studios. Guests will find unique items for gifts and for inspiration to elevate their spirits. ‘Very active’ severe weather season in Wisconsin approaching 10-year high for tornadoes
Tornado season in Wisconsin started early this year and still rages on as the state enters the peak time of the calendar for severe weather. According to the National Weather Service, Wisconsin saw 39 confirmed tornadoes through the first six months of 2024, including the state’s first recorded tornadoes in the month of February.
Wisconsin Gov. Evers declares state of emergency for 4 flooded counties
Gov. Tony Evers declared a state of emergency on Friday for four northeastern Wisconsin counties hit last week by flooding that prompted evacuations and opened a breach in a dam.The executive order signed by Evers declares a state of emergency for Calumet, Outagamie, Waupaca and Winnebago counties. It comes after last week's heavy rainfall caused flooding across that region and forced evacuations on July 5 in the cities of Appleton and Manawa.Between four inches and six inches of rain fell in Waupaca County, with 5.7 inches of rain recorded in Manawa, about 55 miles west of Green Bay.The resulting rain-driven...
