Great Lakes Brewing Co. Enters Massachusetts, Rhode Island
CLEVELAND – Great Lakes Brewing Co. (GLBC) announces its distribution expansion into Massachusetts and Rhode Island with Atlantic Beverage. The brewery began its market launch on July 19, in conjunction with the release of seasonal Oktoberfest in cans and draft. In addition to the fall favorite, the brewery’s entry into the market includes new 2024 brands Juicy Vibacious Double IPA and Strawberry Pineapple Wheat in cans, and Midwest IPA in cans and draft. The launch will be supported by several kickoff events and promotions.

Four houses proposed at site of former Spring Hill Road animal rescue
MONROE, CT — Neighbors of the SPCA of Connecticut Animal Shelter railed against the facility at 359 Spring Hill Road when it first opened in the early 2000s, but the dog kennels were a grandfathered use. The owner, Frederick Acker, fought with town officials over the number of dogs allowed on the property over the years and, due to financial woes, the shelter closed down for good last year.

Davisville Solar Project Draws Ire of Local Residents
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — A proposal for a solar project off Route 403 in the village of Davisville is meeting some early opposition from local residents. Cranston-based Green Development LLC has proposed a 4-megawatt, ground-mounted solar installation on undeveloped land between Route 403 and some homes off Davisville Road. The project, known as NKGM Solar, would clear 36 acres of otherwise untouched land to make room for 10,000 solar panels, and extend Firwood Drive, a sleepy suburban street, into an access road for the solar array.
Bear killed after biting woman in Conn.
The woman sustained minor injuries in the attack. Environmental police in Connecticut euthanized a 280-pound black bear Saturday afternoon after it bit a woman in Cheshire. UConn Health is now offering the drug lecanemab to patients with mild signs of dementia. In clinical trials it was shown to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. The memory assessment team at the UConn Center on Aging consists of multidisciplinary experts who monitor and guide patients through the treatment process.
