Pioneer baseball off to 1-2 start

The Butternut/Mercer Pioneers high school boys baseball team is now 1-2 at the start of the season in the Northern Lights Conference. The new head coach for the team this season is Cory Carlson.

The Pioneers opened the season with a 28-2 home loss against Washburn, followed by an 11-7 home win against South Shore on April 9, and a 31-3 loss at Hurley on April 11.

During the South Shore game the Pioneers scored 3 runs in the first inning, 4 more in the second and held a South Shore rally to 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game.

The Pioneers are scheduled to play at Mellen (0-2) on April 15, at Drummond (1-0) on April 22, and host Bayfield (1-0) on April 25.
