    Michalski, Esterholm win at conference meet

    There were some banner performances at the Marawood Conference Track and Field Meet on May 13 in Abbotsford. Chequamegon senior Autumn Michalski won all three of her distance runs, while Phillips senior Gavin Esterholm won both of the distance runs he competed in.

    Michalski’s triple crown included breaking her own 800 and 1,600 conference records, according to Chequamegon Coach Mary Patterson.

    “Autumn holds all three conference records and was voted Marawood Conference MVP for the year,” she said. “This truly capped an incredible Marawood Conference career for our standout Autumn; she ran effortlessly on the night with her 800, going out hard and setting a new personal record for herself. She finished on such a high note and is ready to begin her final tournament run.”

    Michalski won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.25, according to results posted on MileSplitWi by Performance Timing, LLC. Phillips sophomore Leah Harper was second with 2:27.98, and freshman teammate Ruby McCormick was seventh at 2:36.86.

    Michalski won the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:01.85. Phillips junior Meredith Merlin was fifth with 5:39.89, and senior teammate Endora Udovich was ninth with 6:15.84.

    Michalski won the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:14.40. Prentice sophomore Kylie Orysen was third with 12:27.08, followed by Merlak of Phillips in fourth with 12:30.00. Chequamegon’s Abby Humphrey was eighth.

    Michalski earned elite performance honors for her times. Three other girls earned elite honors to include Evie Bates of Newman Catholic for a 5-4 high jump; Brianna Sheridan of Stratford for a 17-7.5 long jump; and Malaina Telschow with a 10-6 pole vault.

    Two boys earned elite honors: Chris Marcell of Marathon for a 178-0 discus throw, and Ryan Peel of Athens for a 14-6 pole vault.

    Esterholm placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.10. Chequamegon sophomore Jarrett Heckendorf placed fourth with 2:09.63.

    Esterholm won the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:33.87. Senior teammate Julian Ellington placed seventh.

    Esterholm didn't run the 1,600 meter run but junior teammate James Vollendorf placed second with 10:37.99, followed by senior teammate Maverick Hoagland at 10:51.18. Rib Lake junior Jack Regier was fourth with 11:06.44.

    Heckendorf had one of his best meets of the year, placing fourth in 800, fifth in 400 and was a stellar anchor in the 3,200 relay with Cooper Michalski, Jayden Oscar and Austin Hoffman, Patterson said.

    “Jarrett made all conference in all three races looking very strong,” she said. “Our sprint relays all saw personal records with our boys having perfect handoffs to make all conference.

    The 800 meter relay team was Judah Johnson, Jackson Ernst, Harland Kasowicz and Devin Adams-Dunn. The 400 meter relay team was Johnson, Ernst, Kasowicz and Jerry Miguel.

    In other events:

    BOYS

    Rib Lake sophomore Jed Henderson placed first in the high jump with 6-01.00

    Phillips sophomore Ben Virnig placed second in the pole vault with 13-06.00.

    In the 400 meter dash, Prentice junior Matthew Schmidt won third place; Phillips sophomore Ayron Delaskey was fifth; and Chequamegon sophomore Jarrett Heckendorf was sixth.

    In the 200 meter dash, Schmidt placed sixth, Phillips sophomore Ben Virnig placed seventh, and Chequamegon senior Harold Kasowicz was ninth.

    Phillips senior Hayden Sokolowski placed third in the 300 meter hurdles and sixth in the 110 meter hurdles. Chequamgeon’s Robert Schienebeck placed sixth in the 300 meter to also make all conference.

    Phillips placed third in the 4x400 meter relay.

    Rib Lake placed third in the 4x800 meter relay.

    Chequamegon senior AJ Morgan placed fifth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

    GIRLS

    Phillips was first in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:14.14; third in the 4x400 meter relay with 4:24.62, and fifth in the 4x200 meter relay with 1:58.17.

    Chequamegon was eighth in the 4x3200 relay with Mallory Smith, Clare Yunk, Abby Humphrey and Carla Rodriquez. The team was also eighth in the 4x800 relay with Smith, Yunk, Delaney Hanson, and Nathalie Schmidt.

    Rib Lake senior Olivia Lopez was second in the triple jump with 34-00, and third in the long jump with 16-10.50. Lopez was fifth in the 200 meter dash, where Phillips junior Sarah Knaack placed sixth.

    Rib Lake sophomore Emma Tlusty was third in the 100 meter hurdles with 18:18.

    Prentice sophomore Kayla Gillett was second in the high jump with 5-00. Rib Lake freshman Maddie Rademacher was fourth, and sophomore teammate Hadassah Nelson was seventh.

    Phillips junior Jaycee Pomeroy was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with 54:04.Gillett was sixth.

    Rib Lake was fourth in the 4x100 meter relay.

    “The Marawood Conference was loaded with some of the best track athletes in the state of Wisconsin,” Patterson said. “We had 14 personal records on the night and fought hard for every point and all conference honors. We were extremely proud of all of these kids for competing at a high level.”
