    The week in baseball: Rib Lake keeps winning

    It was a fantastic week in the Marawood North Conference baseball regular season as Abbotsford/Colby High School held on to first place after winning their last five games with a 17-7 overall and 9-1 in the conference. Rib Lake High School won their last four games to finish 14-4 overall and 9-1 in the conference.

    Abbotsford/Colby has two games remaining with a non-conference match at Columbus Catholic (10-0) and will host Spooner (9-9).

    Rib Lake will close the regular season with three non-conference home games against Spencer (4-6), Gillman (3-7) and Greenwood (0-10).

    Athens finished at 7-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

    Phillips is now 6-9 overall and 4-6 in the conference. The Loggers went 2-1 in the last three games with a 13-0 loss at Barron, followed by a 13-3 win at Hurley and a 5-4 win against Washburn. The Loggers close the regular season at Ladysmith (5-13) on May 21.

    Prentice is currently 5-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference. The Buccaneers lost 9-2 at Laona/Wabeno, and won 10-3 at Gilman, with two games remaining at Butternut/Mercer (2-10) and Flambeau (10-2).

    Chequamegon is 5-16 overall and 1-9 in the conference. The Eagles won three straight against Tomahawk, Washburn and Butternut/Mercer, before losing two to Ashland and Northern Pines. The final regular season game is at Lakeland Union on May 20.

    NORTHERN LIGHTS CONFERENCE

    Butternut-Mercer is currently 2-10 in the conference and 2-12 overall, which is holding sixth place in the seven team conference. The Pioneers lost the last three games to Bayfield, Chequamegon and Hurley, and will host Prentice to end the regular season on May 20.
