    Prichard reports over 444,000 gallons of sanitary sewer overflow in 2 days

    PRICHARD, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Prichard Water Works and Sewer Board reported five sanitary sewer overflows that occurred on Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5.

    According to a news release from the Mobile County Health Department, heavy rain caused the sewer overflows.

    These are the five locations of the sewer overflows with the estimated number of gallons overflowed and what body of water received the overflow.

    In the release, Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Philip Michaels advised area residents to take precautions when encountering standing water from the overflows.

    Those coming in direct contact with untreated sewage should wash their hands and clothes thoroughly, the release said.

    The MCHD advised caution when using Gum Tree Branch, Chickasaw Creek, and Toulmins Spring Branch for recreational purposes.

    “All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before eating,” the MCHD release said.
