Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels advised area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with standing water that accumulated due to the overflow and to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly if they’ve come in direct contact with the untreated sewage.

“Area residents should take precautions when using Chickasaw Branch for recreational purposes because of this overflow,” the MCHD news release said.

“All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before eating. People should wash their hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.”
