Sibley man arrested for OWI near George
GEORGE—A 21-year-old Sibley man was arrested about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, near George on a charge of first-offense operating while under the influence. The arrest of Joseph Landon Renken stemmed from the stop of a 2008 Chevrolet K-2500 pickup for a faulty headlight on Kennedy Avenue south of George, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Spencer mother convicted of stabbing and killing lady after girls get into fight is expected in court
In 2022, a woman from Spencer is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of fatally stabbing another woman following a fight between their daughters. In October 2022, there was an altercation between the daughters of Kayla McNeal and Vaneesa Wade. According to investigators, both women, who were neighbors in Spencer, became involved in the incident.

This find, located in the southern part of the state, is Iowa’s first notable mastodon and includes several bones primarily from the skull. The timing of this mastodon’s life aligns with the era when the first humans were inhabiting the region. I wonder if this mastodon knew the Flintstones.

(Treynor) -- Applications are sought for a small business pitch competition in southwest Iowa. TS Bank is once again partnering with Advance Southwest Iowa Corporation and other local companies to offer $15,000 to one or more local entrepreneurs through REV, a small business pitch competition. The competition has distributed over $138,000 since it began in 2015. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Show" program recently, TS Bank Director of Public Relations Kelsey Stupfell says the program is a chance to help ensure small businesses are set up for long-term growth and sustainability.
