The Milaca girls finished second and the boys finished fourth

In Princeton’s final home meet of the 2024 season, the boys and girls teams didn’t disappoint, as the Tigers finished in the top five out of eight teams in both the boys and girls team scores at the Chuck Johnson Invitational on Thursday, May 2, at Princeton High School.

The Chuck Johnson Invitational is in memory of former Princeton coach, teacher and athletic trainer Chuck Johnson, who died in 2016. He served Tigers athletics in multiple capacities for more than 50 years up until his death.

At this year’s invitational, plaques were awarded to the male and female athlete who earned the most points. Tigers senior Devon Bragg won the boys award with a score of 31 points. Bragg finished first in the 110-meter hurdles, second in the 300-meter hurdles, second in the 4x200-meter relay along with Nolan Kraker, Isiah Richter and Logan Wagner, and fourth in the triple jump. Milaca sophomore Taylar Bockoven won the girls award with a perfect score of 40. Bockoven finished first in the 100-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay, the long jump and the pole vault.

The Princeton boys team took first place with 168.5 points. Senior Cadyn Miller set a Tigers track and field record when he finished first in the pole vault by jumping 13 feet and 8 inches high. He broke the record set in 2011 by Milaca’s Riley Sikkink. Other event winners for the Princeton boys were junior Cole Olson (100-meter dash), junior Brody Kok (200-meter dash) and senior Cameron Adams (discus throw).

The Tigers girls team finished fourth with 92.5 points behind third-place Big Lake, second-place Milaca and first-place Spectrum. Event winners for the Princeton girls were junior Lillian Koenig (100-meter and 300-meter hurdles) and sophomore Kyleigh Noble (high jump).

The Milaca girls team had two athletes with first-place finishes: Bockoven and senior Addison Greninger, who finished first in the shot put competition.

The Wolves boys team finished fourth with 119.5 points behind third-place Spectrum, second-place Big Lake, and the Tigers. Event winners for the Milaca boys were junior Ben Berg (1,600-meter run) and sophomore William Lang (400-meter dash).

After the meet, the Johnson family and the Princeton track and field booster club served ice cream sundaes to the athletes. Serving ice cream sundaes after one practice every season was a tradition Chuck Johnson started at Princeton.
