Tigers have a taste of what the Section 5-2A meet will look like later this spring

The Princeton boys and girls track and field teams had a preview of what to expect in the Section 5-2A tournament later this spring, as the Tigers competed in the Section 5-2A true team tournament on Tuesday, May 7, at Rocori High School. The Princeton boys finished in sixth place out of 13 teams with 488 points, while the girls team finished in 12th place out of 13 teams with 310.5 points. Both Tigers teams competed against Rocori, Annandale, Becker, Big Lake, Eden Valley-Watkins, Foley, Milaca, Spectrum, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Francis and Zimmerman.

“At the end of the day, we finished pretty much where we expected to finish,” Tigers head coach Tom Ostroot said. “For a while, the boys were holding onto a top-three position, but we didn’t have the depth to maintain that position throughout the entire meet.”

The Tigers boys 4x100 relay team finished first in 44.36 seconds. It was the boys team’s only event win of the day.

On the girls side, Tigers sophomore Kyleigh Noble finished first in the high jump, reaching a maximum height of 5 feet, 7 inches. Noble is the top-ranked high jumper in Class 2A.

Princeton will compete in the Mississippi 8 conference championships on Wednesday, May 22, at noon at Zimmerman High School. The Tigers will compete against Zimmerman, Becker, Big Lake, Cambridge-Isanti, Chisago Lakes, Monticello, North Branch and St. Francis.
