PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – Do you consider yourself a chess master?

Summer Schedule of events for Craft Memorial Library

If so, you can put your wits to the test at The 2nd annual chess tournament at Princeton City Hall on Saturday, July 19, 2024.

One of the unique things about this tournament is it will be overseen by the 2021 WV Chess Association’s Junior State Champion, Noah Stafford, who is only 17 years old.

However, Stafford has since gotten out of playing many big chess tournaments.

Instead, he is helping organize clubs and tournaments in local communities like Princeton.

“What I like about chess really is the community aspect about it. I’m not big on just sitting down and playing games for hours on end without really getting to talk to and know your opponent. Which is a big part about this chess club, is that it’s really open to community, it’s not so strict. People can talk,” Stafford told 59News.

This event is open to all ages and skill levels.

The two competitive categories are 6th grade and below and 7th grade to adult.

The first move will take place at 10 in the morning on Saturday.
