Even if they are off, it's probably not by much: ALBO's Gretchen Jaeckel, left, Jennifer Jang, Emily Flesher, and Carolyn Klaube.

Princeton, NJ – Live music performances are always worth a special mention in our weekend events calendar. We have plenty coming up this weekend, with two local groups bookending the weekend with outdoor performances.

On Friday, July 26, the Princeton-based quintet, Prisms , performs at a pop-up parking lot show at the Arts Council of Council of Princeton.

Then on Sunday, July 28, at 4 p.m. on Hinds Plaza, the Princeton Public Library will present ALBO, an all-woman folk/bluegrass quartet from central New Jersey, in its summer Listen Local series.

ALBO is an on-point acronym for a group with a quirky name: A Little Bit Off. The musicians of A Little Bit Off have been playing to central New Jersey audiences for over a decade. Their bluegrass sensibility and modern Americana/folk repertoire has been influenced by diverse artists such as the Old Crow Medicine Show and the Steeldrivers to the Rolling Stones, Dolly Parton, and Johnny Cash.

ALBO’s blend of acoustic country, blues, and bluegrass three-part harmonies is generated by Gretchen Jaeckel on mandolin, Carolyn Klaube on guitar, Emily Flesher on fiddle, and Jennifer Jang on upright bass. Jaeckel, Klaube, and Flesher have been playing together as ALBO for over a decade. Jang, the newest member, joined in 2023, following the retirement of longtime bass player Lolly Barton.

They all have local connections. And Jang – full disclosure – has her own connection to TAPinto Princeton: Her daughter, Kate Becker, is the editor of the listings below.
