Deadly shooting in Mercer County under investigation

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — A shooting that left one man dead in Mercer County remains under investigation.

On Saturday, June 8, 2024 at around 1:00 A.M., members of the Princeton Police Department were dispatched to a home on Kee Street due to a man who had reportedly been shot.

Once on scene officers were able to identify the victim as 52 year old, Shaileshbhai Patel. He appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound in the upper chest area.

The Princeton Fire Department and Princeton Rescue Squad came to scene for medical assistance. Patel died at the scene.

The victim was taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for autopsy.

The Princeton Police Department is urging the public to come forward with any information they might have regarding this incident and to call them at 304-487-5000 or after hours on the non-emergency line of Mercer County Dispatch at 304-425-8911.

The investigation is still ongoing.
