New preschool opening in Mercer County this fall

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – Princeton preschoolers will have the option to enroll at a new school this fall.

First Baptist Church Princeton will be offering preschool classes from 9 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon on weekdays this coming fall.

The church plans to have 4 year-olds on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 3-year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The plan is to bring on one teacher and one aide to teach classes.

First Baptist Church Princeton Senior Pastor Jason Spade told 59News this an important service to the families in the area. “We [were] talking to the people in the congregation that were having difficulty getting into daycares and the preschools here. So there was a need for it. [Also,] there were only a couple churches that offer [preschools], so as far as people looking for a Christ-centered option, we wanted to do that.

Although the church is just getting started in the preschool business, Pastor Spade has experience overseeing preschool classes at his former church in Parkersburg.

Spade believes the church’s education program is ready for the long haul. “I would like to see us have a program that could handle a hundred kids. Whether that evolves into something beyond preschool, [or] we do anything above that, I’m not sure. I just know right now this is where God has called us to minister and we’re going to minister and we’re going to be faithful in doing that.”

To enroll a 3-year old, the cost will be set at $150 a month. For 4-year olds, the cost will be $200.
