Princeton Salvation Army seeking more volunteers to combat financial crisis

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – Princeton’s Salvation Army has run into serious issues getting donations.

Workers with Princeton’s branch of the Salvation Army noticed a downward trend of donation dollars, resulting in a crisis.

Sergeant Melissa White, the Corps Administrator of Princeton Salvation Army told 59News, “We had a $25,000 shortfall this year in our kettle program, and overall giving is down for nonprofits right now.”

This money is normally given to the less fortunate and to those affected by disasters.

The lack of donation money was not the only issue. They also were negatively impacted by the lack of volunteer help.

Sgt. White explained that they even offered to pay their volunteers last year, but still ran into issues finding anyone willing to help.

They are looking for more volunteer help from around the community even now.

One way how you can get involved is with their Christmas in July event.

“We are having Christmas in July this Saturday at Grant’s IGA Supermarket on Athens Road in Princeton from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you’d like to come by and ring the bell or putting something in the kettle, it will all be used to go back out in the community. It’s just a reminder that we’re already signing up for Christmas. If you’d like to be a part of that solution for our community,” said Sgt. White.
